1. What is Nose lift?

Nose lift is a cosmetic surgery procedure that enhances the nose by increasing the height of the nose bridge including protrusion of the nasal tip. It involves insertion of either a Silicone implant or Goretex (ePTFE). Patient’s own cartilage (usually from the ears) can also be harvested and used as a natural implant.

2. What are the advantages of a noselifts with Silicone implants?

a. It is the gold standard, being used for the past several decades (tried and tested).

b. Low rejection rate (<2%)

c. Best result because it can be carved or shaped according to what fits the patient’s features.

d. Good lifting effect but may cause some pressure around surrounding tissues when implant is too big. This can lead to implant protrusion.

e. Body forms a capsule around the Silicone, thus easier to remove or replace in case patient decides have a new look or shape in the future.

f. Lower in price.

g. Very minimal incisions – closed-rhinoplasty (barely 40% around the rim of the nostrils).

h. Fast recovery.

3. What are the advantages of noselifts with Goretex implants?

a. Latest in implant technology.

b. Natural looking but a bit expensive.

c. Almost nil rejection rate (although still present).

d. Newer Goretex implants can now be carved and shaped.

e. Softer in consistency thus lesser pressure on the surrounding skin.

f. May have some shrinkage the future.

g. Alternative for those with Silicone rejection.

4. What are the advantages/disadvantages of noselifts using Cartilage grafts?

a. Guaranteed all natural.

b. Lifting material will be taken from the cartilage at the back of your ear.

c. 100% no rejection.

d. May require an open-type rhinoplasty plus ear incision.

e. Lifting not as high as Silicone and Goretex implants.

f. Longer surgery/recovery and a bit pricey.

g. Alternative for those with Silicone rejection.

5. How long would the procedure take?

1-2 hours for Silicone and Goretex noselifts. 2-3 hours for Cartilage graft noselifts. Additional procedures like nose trimming may add more time.

6. What anesthesia do you use?

Local anesthesia injected (with a fine small needle) over the bridge and nostrils. These would probably the only thing you will feel during the procedure. Additional injection sites at the back of one ear for cartilage harvest (in Goretex and Cartilage noselifts).

7. Will I be awake?

Yes but you won’t feel any pain. Being awake can make you decide on the final look or shape of your nose once implant is inserted (before stitches are applied).

8. Is there an option to be asleep during surgery?

Yes. Additional costing applies.

9. Will there be bruising after?

No bruising occurs. Only minimal swelling around the eyes and nose are expected on the 2nd day which disappears on the 4th day.

10. Will there be bandages applied?

No bandages. Only small thin plasters over the bridge and tip to stabilize the implant, and to make you aware or conscious you just had a nose lift.

11. When do you remove the stitches?

On the 7th day. 14th day for the trimming.

12. When can I return back to normal activity like office work?

A day after stitch removal. You can actually report for work earlier on the 5th day but you will be wearing face mask.

13. When can I have sports activities?

On the 3rd month.

14. What if something/someone accidentally hits my nose?

First 2 months of healing is very critical. After this period, implant is expected to have thicker capsule (for Silicone) or tissue integration (for Goretex) and are thus more stable. Minor displacements may be fixed within 3 days without surgery by external manipulation and stabilization.

15. When will I see the actual outcome of my nose?

Although you will have the idea how your nose will appear immediately after surgery, it will gradually transform over time because of the slight swelling which will eventually disappear. Swelling over the bridge will be out in less than a week. For the tip and lower sides (nostrils), 80-90% over 2 weeks and remaining 10-20% over 2 months.

16. Will there be scar?

The incisions are hidden around the rim of both nostrils (inner sides). Open type rhinoplasty will have an incision over the columella.  All these will be barely visible one(1) month  after stitch removal.
